Sports Cardiology Society Launches to Advance Cardiovascular Care for Athletes Worldwide
RALEIGH, N.C. – A group of physicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals announced the formation of the Sports Cardiology Society (SCS), a new professional organization dedicated to advancing excellence in the cardiovascular care of athletes. Founded by a team of pioneering cardiologists the Society was created to address the growing demand for specialized clinical expertise in athlete cardiovascular health. As participation in sports and exercise continues to expand worldwide, SCS will provide a multidisciplinary community that brings together clinicians, researchers, and performance professionals to advance education, promote research, establish best practices, and guide athlete-centered cardiovascular care.
The Sports Cardiology Society brings together experts across cardiology, sports medicine, exercise physiology, athletic training, performance science, and cardiovascular research. Through collaboration and innovation, the Society aims to improve cardiovascular health and safety for athletes at every level, from youth and recreational participants to elite and professional competitors.
“Sports cardiology has evolved from a niche area of interest into a vital discipline that bridges cardiovascular medicine and athletic performance,” said the Society's first President Matt Martinez, MD. “The Sports Cardiology Society was established to unite the professionals who care for athletes and to foster innovation, education, research, and collaboration in pursuit of safer sport participation and improved cardiovascular health.”
The Society will make its formal introduction during at the Boston Sports Cardiology Summit, taking place September 25-26, 2026, at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. This event will bring together leaders in the field to discuss emerging research, evolving clinical practices, and the future of athlete-focused cardiovascular care.
At the Boston Sports Cardiology the Society will recognize one of the field's most influential pioneers with its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating extraordinary contributions to the advancement of sports cardiology and athlete cardiovascular care.
