What makes this Society special is its people. Our strength lies in the diversity of disciplines and perspectives represented, cardiologists, sports medicine physicians, researchers, performance professionals, united by a shared commitment to trainers, and athlete-centered care. We believe in supporting trainers, and athlete-centered care. We believe in supporting athletes to compete safely, without unnecessary restrictions to compete safely, without unnecessary restrictions, while maintaining the highest standards of cardiovascular evaluation and management.

The Sports Cardiology Society (SCS) The Sports Cardiology Society is a new, physician led professional organization dedicated to the cardiovascular health and performance of athletes and highly active individuals. It brings together the physicians, researchers, and clinicians working at the intersection of cardiology and sports medicine, an intersection that until now hasn't had a dedicated professional home in the United States. Why the Sports Cardiology Society Was Created |
Participation in organized and competitive sports continues to grow across all age groups, from youth and collegiate athletics to master
collegiate athletics to masters competitors and professional athletes. As more individuals engage in high-level training and competition, the demand for cardiovascular expertise tailored to the unique physiological adaptations and clinical challenges of athletes has increased substantially.
To meet this growing need, it is essential to establish and support a nationwide network of cardiologists and other medical professionals with dedicated training in sports cardiology, ensuring that athletes in every region have access to expert evaluation, risk assessment, and longitudinal cardiovascular care.
The Sports Cardiology Society (SCS) is uniquely positioned to build and sustain a national network of expertise that ensures athletes receive consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care regardless of where they train, compete, or relocate. As athletes frequently move between schools, teams, training centers, and professional organizations, access to recognized regional experts becomes essential for maintaining continuity of care and informed clinical decision-making. The SCS fosters collaboration across institutions, facilitates timely referrals, and connects healthcare professionals throughout the country and reduces geographic disparities in access to sports cardiology expertise.
Through this model, the SCS promotes the dissemination of best practices, standardization of care, educational opportunities, and collaborative research, ultimately improving cardiovascular outcomes and supporting safe participation in sport for athletes at every level.
